TRIAL: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil-Free - IT BROKE ME OUT!

It has been months since I tried using other products. I have this phobia too of trying new products because I break out, every time!

I have read from different beauty articles that if you have acne-prone skin, you have to lay off oil-containing products. So before I purchase, I always check the reviews and ingredients.

Cost:
₱1,850 (Rustans) = $43 (Nordstrom)
*The
price is inclusive of tax, I think.

DETAILS from Nordstrom:Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer is a buildable foundation that can be worn by all skin types but especially those with acne-prone, sensitive or oily skin. The sheer, lightweight formula helps control oil breakthrough while providing hydration to prevent dryness and offers further protection from UVA and UVB rays with an SPF 20. Perfect for troubled skin.

    • 1.7 oz.
    • By Laura Mercier.

I wanted to try Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer. The oil-free version.

I visited the LM counter and tested a pea-size on my face. It seemed light weight and has a dewy finish. I wanted to skip my BB cream routine because it feels quite heavy and I wanted something that is a pick-me-up, like you don't need to put on moisturizer, whenever you're in a hurry.

I had a feeling of wanting to buy it that moment, but again, I wanted to check if my face doesn't react to this.

When I got home, I washed my face and did my nighttime skincare routine, and hit the sack.

That morning, while showering, I noticed very tiny bumps on my left cheek like they were huddled close to each other and it felt like chicken skin! What in tarnation?! I had suffered skin acne for nearly 3 years and is on the verge of getting better, but the LM just took a detour!

I grabbed my Clarins Lotus Oil, got one drop and dabbed it on the affected areas. To my utmost horror, I had one nasty purplish-coloured pimple  on the top of my cheekbones. I dabbed oil on that area. (This stuff can dry nasty pimples too!)

I must say, if your skin is as sensitive as mine, never apply on your face! Apply a small amount on the jawline.

Makeupalley reviews about this product was low. I mean people who tried this, a lot of them, broke out too.

After a week of using the oil, the acne subsided. I can still feel the chicken-skin-like bumps but not that much anymore, and the purple zit, it's fading.

TSK. Probably gives good coverage but can turn your skin horrible. This is not for me nor for all those acne-prone skin women.

I think my zits are visible in this photo. I have one above the side of my lip and below it. If you connect them, you can form a line. Oh there's the purple zit but it's fading now. On my cheeks, the tiny bumps aren't that clear unless you touch them.

MAC Mineralize Satinfinish Foundation SPF 15 Foundation - BREAKS YOU OUT AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF USING.

I love to have that dewy finish glow on my face. I hate that matte look. I feel like my face is dull and boring.

It took me a while (well, actually two years!) to post this review about this foundation. If you have read my previous blogs, I bought Clarins The Beauty Flash Balm for my 22nd birthday. On my 21st birthday (I was born on June) I bought MAC's Mineralize Satinfinish Foundation which I indubitably regret buying.

Cost: ₱1,900 (Rustans) = $32 (MAC Website)

*The  price is inclusive of tax, I think.

DETAILS from Nordstrom:
  • A fluid foundation that blends the natural light-reflecting properties of micro-minerals with a smooth satin finish. Provides low-to-medium buildable coverage with a skin-flattering, slightly luminous look. Helps make your skin appear radiant, healthy, re-energized. Contains vitamins A, C and E to help nurture and condition the skin. Provides everyday broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 15 sun protection. Long-wearing.

I have used this last year for two months only because I started to break out. It was my first ever MAC product. I was really happy. I have heard women raving everything about MAC so I gave it a shot.

It did live up to its promises that it gives you a smooth satin finish and illuminating glow. What's so good about it is I could still see my own skin. I am using NC30. When I applied this, there was no skin color changes. It was like a dewy transparent film over my skin to give it a radiant glow. It wasn't heavy. Just this with a moisturizer as my primer and I was set.

My skin was acne-free during those days. I only got one or two small pimples before my period or when I am under stress and then they just disappear after a day.

July of 2011, I started applying for Canada. Many documents to gather, there were fees to pay that were more than what my parents expected, and I had to study IELTS and French.

I worked only on the weekdays, eight hours a day, teaching English to Japanese, Koreans, and Taiwanese and I end at 5 p.m. My IELTS review starts at 5:30 that I had to ride a motorbike from my workplace to the review center which takes about 20 minutes. I do that every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the whole month of July.

All the dust I got from cars and roads, they stick on my face. I think my drugstore cleanser wasn't strong enough to remove all the filth. Plus, the stress I get from work, from my IELTS review that lasts about three hours, and the thought that my scheduled IELTS test was a month away.

One day, I woke up to see tons of cystic acne erupting from my cheeks! They were shockingly flaring and painful. As the days continued, my zits never left my cheeks. I tried another cleanser that deals with acne but to no avail. It didn't do anything to stop them from spurting.

I stopped using MAC's foundation for quite a while. I waited for my acne to subside. When it did, though there were still some on certain parts of my cheeks, I used it again to acne-free areas.

I did notice in the bottle that the oil had risen to the top. So I pumped a small amount and I got oil instead of the whole foundation. I shook the bottle and pumped another amount. The oil had mixed with the brown liquid. I shrugged it off and proceeded to the application.

The next day, pimples have dwelt on the areas where I applied the foundation! I was so devastated. I left it in my drawer and vowed to never use it again.

This was the start of my skin troubles. It has been nearly two years. When will this end?!

Even if this was continued, I don't know about you guys but I must say I will never use this product again. I love MAC. I love their products but to those who have acne-prone, oily and combination skin (like me) this isn't the right product for you.

Sadly, I gave it away. My friend's feedback was it she loved it and people have been complimenting her looks but as the months went by, she experienced break outs too on her cheeks that she stopped using it and threw it away.

MAC has amazing products. (My apologies my skin is so sensitive) I'll buy their lipsticks and lipglosses but I don't think I'll be trusting them with their foundations.

I'm scrupulous enough to search for the right foundation that would suit my delicate skin, but for now, I'm sticking to Clarins BB Cream.

Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil

I have never used any face oils. I was feeling a bit cagey at first since I have combination-oily and acne-prone skin. I fear that it will worsen what's worse already. But I was wrong. This stuff has extraordinary power in a glass bottle. It may be pricey but it's worth every penny.

Cost: 2,550 (Rustans) = $50 (Nordstrom/Sephora)

*The  price is inclusive of tax, I think.

  • DETAILS from Nordstrom:

  • Natural astringent. 100% pure plant extracts. Clarins' exclusive blend of rosewood, geranium and lotus extracts purifies, tightens pores and refines the skin texture. Hazelnut oil softens, soothes and seals in moisture to prevent fine lines. Non-staining.
How to use: In the evening, after thorough cleansing and toning, apply a small amount to face and neck still damp with Toning Lotion, avoiding the eye contour. Gently dab face with a soft tissue to remove any excess product.
    • For oily or combination skin.
    • Preservative-free                                                         *photo from Sephora
    • 1 oz.

Ingredients from Sephora: Rosewood, Geranium, and Lotus Extracts: Purify and normalize. -Hazelnut Oil: Helps prevent moisture loss and signs of ageing.
Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Parfum/Fragrance, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil, Belumbium Speciosum Flower Extract, Tocopherol, Citronellol, Linalool, Geraniol, Limonene, Citral, Coumarin, Benzyl Benzoate.

Clarins has three kinds of treatment oils and this Lotus Oil is for those people with oily or combination skin. I kept on reading reviews
  • and asking people for their feedback on this. So far, they all gave it a thumbs up.

  • Ponderous on the budget I must say but if your skin needs all that pampering , you really have to invest big time. At the end, your skin will really thank you.

  • Before I bought this, I asked the SA in Rustans what does this oil do to the skin (though I already know but I want to be certain). She explained that it balances the skin's oil production and regains back the lost moisture on the dry patches of my face.

She also added that it works best if paired with the Toning Lotion with Iris, which is also for oily to combo skin. I told her I'll buy it next time but she insisted. Sensing that I couldn't purchase it (I don't have enough cash), she told me that she'll look for a sample.

Hallelujah! Such a kind-hearted SA. She gave me a 100-ml sample which she had saved for herself. Thank you good SA.

  • With the perfect duo set, she explained to me how to apply the Clarins way.
She also advised me to use this twice a week.

  • That night, I was so psyched to try it out. I cleansed my face with a mild cleanser from Physiogel, a drugstore brand cleanser which is really amazing too.

  • (I had to stop using Mario Badescu's Glycolic Foaming Cleanser because it was too strong for my skin already. I mentioned in my last blog that I use this everyday)

  • Suggested Usage from Clarins:
  • -Add two drops of Face Oil and warm between your hands.
  • -Press gently into skin on the cheeks, forehead, and neck.

  • The smell is like that of a spa. Minty and smells like herbal medicine but not too strong. The scent is actually very soothing. I applied it that night. My face looked oily and shiny but it's fine since I'm just at home. I then applied a sample of my Clarins Multi Active Youth Recovery Night Cream. You can even not apply any moisturizer since this oil does give your skin the moisture it needs.

  • Have you ever had that feeling that you are so excited to try stuff out that you can't sleep right and when you've tried it you can't wait to see the results? It takes weeks to months for the product to show it's magnificence but I just couldn't wait.

  • That morning, I hastily search for my mirror to check my face. I have a huge red pimple on my right cheek that after using the treatment overnight, that pimple looked quite dry and less painful.

  • What was so amazing too was my face became softer and velvety beneath my touch. The dry patches on my cheeks are no longer there! Just one night of use and I have seen brilliant results. I couldn't help touching my face but I should!

This is still my first week of use so I couldn't say more about it but if there are changes, I will surely update!

Here are some of my photos with these hideous scars!

Clinique Chubby Stick in Mighty Mimosa

I love peachy colors. They match my tan or fair-skin. I got bored with my Romantic Lip balm stain from Revlon. The color cherry-red was too much for my daily use.

Cost: ₱920 (Rustans) = $16 (Sephora)

*The ₱ price is inclusive of tax, I think.

DETAILS from Nordstrom:
Eight natural-looking lip tints in all, each with a subtle sheen. Tempt lips with a soft cushion of color that's not quite sheer, not quite opaque - just the perfectly happy medium. Loaded with mango and shea butters so lips feel comfortably soft and smooth. In a variety of shades

I couldn't find any list of ingredients on the internet and the photo of the packaging with the list is not that visible.

I have been eyeing this stuff ever since I heard about lip balms that color the lips. I have read reviews about this and the Revlon's. I couldn't make up my mind because both seemed to equally have positive comments from customers, but most of them say they prefer Revlon because it's way cheaper than Clinique's.

I purchased Revlon in Romantic and regretted a bit because after doing another research about the two, people swore Clinique's chubby stick is the best. I couldn't sleep. I needed to buy the that. It took me a month before I could get hold of the chubby stick.

This is the Clinique Chubby stick lip color balm in Mighty Mimosa. I asked the SA for a peachy-pink color and this is what she suggested.

The actual product is the photo below. No edits. I used my iPhone 4s to take photos since I can't afford to buy those high-definition-taking-cameras. The money I am earning cannot suffice all my WANTS so basically, I'll have to use whatever I've got. I saved a lot for this baby too.

It took me a while to decide what colour should I get. What's so good about Clinique is that they have tons of shades to choose from that you want to try all of it. I have fair skin so peachy-pink to orange suits me well.

This is the actual photo of my lips wearing the Mighty Mimosa. In the photo, the colour looks more on the pink side. I'd definitely say this stuff works on any skin colour. I am glad that the SA in Clinique Rustans Cebu suggested me this.

I felt how the balm is quite moisturising. It doesn't give a sticky feeling. I looked at the mirror across me. I couldn't tell if this shade is peach or pink because the lighting in the little Clinique station was quite yellowish. I was hesitant at first. Sensing my reluctance, she told me give it a try and go around for a while to see if the colour really works for me.

After a few moments of strolling around, I checked my lips. It was a beautiful peachy-pink but more on the pinkish side, the one that I really wanted! I love the shade.

It awakened my pale lips. It had little shimmers on it but not too visible. Really perfect for everyday use.

Without a doubt, I went back to Rustans and purchased it.

The downside of this lip balm is that I have to reapply more than three times a day. Unlike the Revlon (which I will then right a review on soon) stays long the whole day.

I wouldn't say this is the best lip balm stain I have ever used. I do like the color but the staying power is too short. When you eat and drink, it erases nearly everything. Oh, if you have chapped or cracked lips, this isn't the best balm to help your lip problem. This is good when your lips are already hydrated and you want to keep them on the hydrated level.

This photo is taken using my Mac Air. I don't know if the colour is really that visible.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater

Let me just cut to the chase.I love this product. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

Cost: ₱445 (Rustans) = $7 (Nordstrom)

*The ₱ price is inclusive of tax, I think.

DETAILS from Nordstrom:
A refreshing, hydrating mist to use any time. Formulated simply with fragrant herbal extracts and rosewater for a pleasant pick-me-up for dehydrated, tight and uncomfortable skin. Gentle, non-irritating.

INGREDIENTS:
Deionized Water, Aloe Vera Gel, Bladderwrack Extract, Herbal Extract, Rose Extract, Gardenia Extract, Propylene Glycol.

I don't go squandering my money on products that I'm clueless about. Prior to deciding to buy or not, I read reviews from different bloggers and of course from makeupalley (this site helps me reach a decision).

It PAYS to read reviews first before purchasing anything. Few months ago, I bought this whitening toner on a whim, I ended up giving it away. Merde!I just wasted my hard-earned money.

J'ai regretté le temps et l'argent que ça m'a coûté.

From all the reviews I have read and reviewed, the pros outweighed the negative comments. Majority loved this product. Pourquoi? Why?

This stuff — when you have enough moisture on your skin, enhances it even more. I spritz an okay amount of this product on my face wearing only a BB cream. I took my mirror and stared in amazement. My face glowed with freshness.

This product gives you quite a dewy effect. I really love it. You would actually see your face really plump with hydration.

I don't want to exaggerate things but really.

The smell is amazing too. Ça c'est bon! Not the strong and fake rose smell. The smell is not long-lasting though.

I have read from the reviews this stuff can be applied on your make up to hold it longer.

Yes, a lot of them said that but for me, it actually ruined like melting it all off when I sprayed it on top of my BB cream. I think I did all wrong. Spray it one-hand apart and not really soak the face with it. Few spritz did the trick.

Kudos to MB's facial spray. I've used Evian Facial Spray but it didn't really impress me.

I spritz a small amount on my hand and spread it on the small area. It gives quite a shine here. And that's how your face would look like if you spritz it on.

This BB Cream is the acme. It's the rave these days. I have tried a few BB Creams depending on my budget and the availability of the product here in my country (Philippines), but sad to say not any of those BB Creams have stolen my heart except for this one.

This is the only BB Cream my oh-so sensitive skin doesn't react to.

Perfecting Cream BB Cream SPF 40 - Clarins
BB

I have tried a lot of BB Creams. My first BB was from Maybelline then I shifted to The Faceshop and Skinfood, both Korean brands. It worked fine on my skin for many months. No tempestuous eruptions of zits. Rien! Pas du tout! Nothing at all! Surprisingly, my skin became so sensitive and it reacted to all the BB Creams that I used that I had to stop using it. I even tried MAC's Mineralize Satinfinish Liquid Foundation which broke me out dreadfully.

I was on the hunt for the right BB cream/Foundation for my touchy skin. I found L'oreal's tinted moisturizer. I thought this stuff will actually be my HG product but sadly, it was another wrong move.

While browsing through Clarins' channel on youtube, I saw this short french clip Vous avez dit BB? FR 1. I didn't really understand the whole thing but I just caught some words that were quite familiar to me (I'm studying French). It was quite a laugh when some of them answered Brigitte Bardot. Such a lovely lady you are. Elle est très belle!

                                                                      Brigitte Bardot

I have been a fan of Clarins since I started using their popular product, the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. My skin didn't react to this even though I've been using it for a while now which is good. And since then, my skin loves Clarins so everything that I am using now is under their line.

Clarins BB Cream came out in the stores last March 2013. In the U.S and European countries, they have their own version of their BB cream which is in a sleek red tube. They only have two shades and the shades are darker compared to the Asian version which has only one shade.

When this came I out, I bought this right away with my savings (Thank God I had saved money). I bought the larger one. I had a gut feeling this is the BB Cream that I have been looking for. I lay my credence on Clarins.

Next day, I tried it on and when I saw the results, I was utterly astonished.

The product covered some of my nearly-gone acne scars, skin redness, and blemishes! The look was more heightened when I applied my primer BFB. It gave me a dewy look which gave me a pleasant natural appearance. The shade suited my skin tone well.

One of the best part too is that it has SPF 40. Woohoo! My skin is so protected from the strong sun here in the Philippines.

Love this stuff to death. I kept on hearing a lot of compliments from my friends. They say there's an invisible bright light surrounding my face. This stuff makes you literally glow.

Almost a year has passed since I've been using this product. So far, no reactions!

I must add that you should apply a lightweight moisturizer, preferably a gel type to create a smooth canvas for the BFB and the BB cream to set in. I did a trial-and-error before I finding out how to really have that beautiful finish. I tried using it with a sponge but it was quite messy. I even bought a foundation brush from my local drugstore and used it but it left streaks.

I think because the BB cream has thick consistency that using a sponge and a brush didn't work. I haven't really tried applying the BB cream with other fancy brushes (too cher) or the Beauty Blender but if you do, you can leave comments down below.

Here are some photos that I took using my iPhone 4s.

Mario Badescu's Glycolic Foaming Cleanser

I wish acne never existed. If only there was a mythical god who could zap away acne forever.

This cleanser is my Holy Grail. I can't live without this.
Cost: ₱945 (Rustans) = $15 (Nordstrom)

*The ₱ price is inclusive of tax, I think.

Details from Nordstrom:
Radiant, clear skin is within your reach. For dull, congested skin, Mario Badescu's lathering deep cleanser has the exfoliating power of glycolic acid to break down build-up from skin's surface, reduce minor discoloration and minimize clogged pores which can cause pimples. An excellent companion product for your daily face wash.

Ingredients:
Deionized Water, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamide DEA, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Glycolic Acid, Matricaria Extract, Yarrow Extract, St Johns Wort Extract, Chamomile Extract, Sage Extact.

I have had acne problems since August 2012. Ever since I started working on my Immigration papers (lots of tests and requirements to comply), I got so stressed that different sizes of pimples — tiniest to the largest — started erupting, particularly on my cheek areas and nearly reaching the Tragus of my ear.

Acne robbed my confidence. I don't like working, meeting old friends and aquaintances. I was worried they'd notice these horrible red angry dots, and unfortunately they did and asked questions like "What's going on with you lately and why do you have tons of zits?" and "Are you stressed?"

Je hais ces boutons sur la peau!

I rummaged through all drugstores in the city, searching for a cure. My sister, who's always updated with skincare products, then suggested me Mario Badescu's Glycolic Foaming Cleanser.

I laid my full trust to her and to this product.

This is quite pricey for a person earning $210/month minus $117 for my bills and $21 for my tax! C'est très cher!

I was so desperate. I'd sacrifice anything just to stop and remove these horrendous zits!

My boyfriend was helpful though. He told me these zits don't matter. He loves me for what I am and what I have. Sweet boy but still having a great skin is really important!

I bought the cleanser. Though the directions said use it 2-3x in a week, I used it everyday.

What the heck. I'm hopeless. What do I've got to lose?

I didn't regret paying for this! I'm on my 3rd bottle now and I have seen AMAZING results. My face is now clearer and brighter. The old scars are now long gone. I still get a minimal number of zits but they're due to hormonal changes and/or reactions to new products that I'm using. Co-workers are complimenting on how my skin looks really good now and brighter.

This is the best ever cleanser. I think Mario Badescu is the mythical god of annihilating acne.

Glycolic Foaming Cleanser is my HG.

**Here is a photo of my cheeks prior to using the cleanser and after. On the right which I took last March, the cleanser nearly wiped my acne and acne scars while on the left which I took last February, you see small to huge red bumps and scars surrounding my mole. I know you're thinking if this is still possibly curable and if the chances of treating this is high or low. Fortunately, I found a cure and this cleanser is the cure.

***UPDATE!
I know I use this everyday but I had to stop using because my skin is so dry especially on my cheeks. Moreover, my skin is compensating by producing more oil that more zits are coming out again but not as worse as this photo. I should have followed the instructions. I should have used this twice a week but no. I was too stubborn and was too antsy, too impatient to wait for the acne to clear up. Now, I am currently using a different cleanser.
 Never use it daily!
